What If Confidence Isn't Where the Journey Begins?

People often think confidence is where change begins.

They tell themselves they'll join the gym when they feel more confident.
They'll wear the shorts when they lose a bit of weight.
They'll post the video, try the class or start looking after themselves... one day, when they finally believe in themselves.

I used to think exactly the same.

Years ago, when I decided to lose weight, walking into a gym felt terrifying. I was convinced everyone would be looking at me. I worried I'd make a fool of myself and that I simply didn't belong there.

The strange thing is, people now often tell me I seem confident.

If I'm honest, I haven't always felt that way.

When I hired a personal trainer, I thought I was paying for knowledge.

I thought I needed someone to tell me what exercises to do and to keep me accountable.

Looking back, I realise I was really looking for something much bigger.

I needed someone who believed in me before I believed in myself.

Every session taught me something.

I got a little stronger.

A little fitter.

A little more capable.

At the time, I didn't notice anything changing beyond my fitness.

But something much bigger was happening.

The more capable I became, the more my confidence quietly grew alongside it.

It wasn't one big moment.

It wasn't suddenly waking up feeling fearless.

It was built one workout, one small achievement and one promise I'd kept to myself at a time.

That's something I see in my coaching all the time.

People often think they need confidence before they start.

The truth is, confidence is usually the result of starting.

Sometimes confidence isn't the first step.

Sometimes it's the reward for taking it.

And sometimes, before we can believe in ourselves, we need someone else to believe in us first.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

We all borrow belief at different points in our lives.

Even now, I still have moments of self-doubt.

I still feel nervous posting videos or putting myself out there.

The difference is that I've learned not to wait until confidence appears.

I know it usually catches up once I've taken the first step.

So if you're waiting until you feel confident enough...

Maybe this is your reminder that you don't have to.

Start where you are.

Take the first step.

Your confidence might just be waiting on the other side of it.

Helping you build a stronger body for the life you want to live—through coaching that fits around your real life.
